Assistant Secretary of Defense for Networks and Information Integration
SBG Technology Solutions provides executive consulting services to the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Networks and Information Integration (ASD NII) and the Department of Defense Chief Information Office (DOD CIO). As part of SBG's primary responsibilities, SBG Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) support the government's Deputy for the Global Information Grid (GIG) and Enterprise-Wide Senior Systems Engineer in developing, deploying and following through on enterprise-wide engineering efforts. SBG has created white papers outlining the strengths and weaknesses of the GIG Outreach plan and Systems Engineering Outreach plan, and provided experienced insight to ensure the approaches are successful. SBG also supports the GIG Enterprise Documentation Framework, an effort to reduce numerous gaps, overlaps and inconsistencies in guidance to program managers building the GIG.
Leveraging on our experience with Naval Open Architecture, SBG has also assessed and assisted with developing future options for the Open Technology Demonstration (OTD) effort within ASD NII. The OTD concept involves the transition of open source software into the DOD, development of a distributed enterprise code repository, and collaboration across the DOD on technology acquisition and development. SBG personnel provide the Principal to the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Advanced Systems & Concepts (DUSD AS&C) with guidance on how to best leverage ASD NII personnel and capabilities to maximize returns from the OTD project.
Another major effort supported by SBG personnel is the evaluation of the Defense Venture Catalyst Initiative (DeVenCI). “The core vision of the DeVenCI program is to accelerate deployment of innovative and emerging information technology (IT) solutions to the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT) and the Global Information Grid (GIG). DeVenCI will work to increase the awareness of DoD operational and technical challenges to companies outside of the normal DoD supply chain. It will tap into the ideas, breakthrough technologies and strategies of information age innovators by leveraging the venture capitalist community.” SBG provides strategic guidance to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (DASD) for Resources to ensure the successful implementation of the DeVenCI business plan.
SBG started this effort as a subcontractor to Jorge Scientific Corporation, and now supports the effort as a subcontractor to Booz Allen Hamilton.
